Deburring is a common process in the industrial and manufacturing business. Metal goes through a lengthy process when it is being refined and shaped for industrial use. The process includes cutting, shaving, and welding in order to create the pieces in the shape and size needed. With all the cutting and shaping going on, the finished product has some wedges of cut metal, sharp edges, or burrs. Deburring tools can be used to remove these.
Deburring can be accomplished in a few ways using a variety of deburring tools. First, abrasive substances could be used. A cloth, for example, might be used to wipe down thin shavings from off the edges of a finished product or for polishing the metal. A second option for pieces with more obvious notches or deformities is sanding. This can be done by hand with rough or thin sand paper depending on the severity of the deformity. In other cases the finished product must be sanded more thoroughly with the use of a machine to complete the deburring process.
Another method uses fillers and grinders. In this method, notches or dents in the product are filled with a metallic substance and then ground to create a smooth finish. Deburring may be necessary for more than one section of the product as it is important for the whole surface to be clean and smooth. With the aid of special polishing tools, workmen can remove bumps, shavings, and other abnormalities on the product.
Deburring wood is also an important process. Pieces of wood in the lumber house being shorn often develop burrs in the form of splinters, shavings, or notches in the finish of the wood. This requires the use of sanding and filling deburring tools to first put filling in the gaps and then sand the product for a smooth finish.
