Granite is the hardest material that can be used, the most expensive, and most beautiful. Most of the costs come from the labor costs of preparing it for granite countertop and installing it. Also, having a more complex shape of the countertop, the more expensive it is because it requires greater labor and expertise. Even though this kind is luxurious, they are preferred for their long lasting characteristics and are just simple to maintain. They look good and are very durable when installed properly. Simple wiping with soapy water and a dry cloth after will bring back its original appearance after usage.

Installation of granite countertop is not a simple task. The do-it-yourself is never recommended for it requires a professional touch. Professional with the right kind of training and equipment should do the installation. However, preliminary tasks can be done by the homeowner to save time and cash. These tasks include cleaning the surface from previous countertop or polishing it as a preparation for the installation.

The installation process begins when the order decides to have granite countertop installed. The first step is to select the granite for the project. The owner will order from the company that sells the kind that is needed or preferred. Factors affecting the choice of granite include the color and pattern complimentary to the other parts of the house. Next, the company will send one of its employees to measure and create templates for installation to arrive with the correct details. Then, the company will prepare the specific design and size of the countertop. It is better to ask a company do the furnishing especially someone has the budget to assure the quality of the countertop. A laser sided saw with a diamond tip is used to cut the granite. Slabs are so heavy so proper care must be done during transport.

Before, the actual installation, metal rods and plywood are added at the edge to support the granite and prevent it from breaking during use. The countertop should be carefully laid to the surface for it may crack in the future if not. Lastly, the installer will apply a penetrating sealer and polish the surface. A lot of granite installations need at least one joint, or more called seams. Throughout layout and design, companies strive to minimize the amount of seams required to be able to save costs and make the appearance cleaner. Moreover, the edges must be ensured to fit together tightly in order to lessen the appearance of visible seams.

There are several types of edges that are considered during installation. Granite tile does not have a bluenose profile. It is usually provided by the company. Another option is the square polish wherein the countertop is simply installed with slightly be leveled over the edge. The result is the same as the first option only it is square. When looking for a cost effective but good looking edge, wood trim is recommended. It is easier and can provide a nice finishing look. Wood trim is pasted and nailed to the front face of the countertop.
